Core Services

Our Core Services are provided by each of our service centers and are meant to provide researchers with different avenues to engage with our service centers.

Consultation services are intended to provide guidance and education on a technical or analytic topic that our teams support. Generally, consultations end with a recommendation or final guidance from our teams for the researcher. In some cases, we may need to do some digging after the meeting before we provide the final guidance. We provide up to 3 hours of consultation time per request at no cost.

Grant support services are available to assist researchers during the design and development stage of their research projects. Our mission is to empower researchers to secure grant funding for their research projects. Our teams understand the complex nature of grants and will work with you on your research design and to craft a proposal.

As a note, there are internal deadlines that must be met when submitting a grant, in addition to the deadline for the grant itself. And so, because of this time sensitive nature, we highly encourage researchers to begin planning for their grant as soon as possible to allow our teams sufficient time to develop your required materials. Grant submissions are time intensive and require a budget, budget justifications, letters of support, biosketches, and often data management sharing plans (DMSPs).

We provide up to 20 hours of grant development per request at no cost, as long as our services are budgeted into the grant budget.

Project services are meant to provide support to an existing project or study that requires some technical or analytics services to be performed. Project services generally end in the completion of a defined ask by a researcher. For example, finishing a power analysis, building something in Epic, or constructing an interactive dashboard.

We pride ourselves in being knowledgeable of the various resources and technical teams throughout Lurie. If we cannot provide the support you need, we will work to direct you to the appropriate resources to do so. We provide project services at our current hourly rates.

Other Popular Services

These are some of the discrete service options we provide researchers.

Provided by our Data Science & Analytics Service Center. Research data requests involve pulling structured data from various sources, but most commonly from Epic, the electronic health record we use at Lurie Children’s. Our reporting team will work with you to define your query design and pull the data.

Please note you must have an approved IRB to pull any data for a research project.

We provide up to 20 hours of research data request work at no cost. Anything over 20 hours requires funding or resubmitting a request.

The Clinical Research Informatics team partners with the Office of Clinical and Community Trials to set up MyChart Recruitment in Epic to help identify and recruit study participants.

FAQs

All of our teams work closely together to get you the right services, regardless of which teams you choose in the form. That said, the more information you provide and the more complete your request is, the quicker we can find it the right home.

With the diversity of our services, it's impossible to generalize. Many of our services require extensive iterative workshopping and validation with requestors to be able to define work with enough specificity to even estimate how long it will take.

We are happy to work with you to help define your needs, but there is no denying that more complete, specific requests can be fulfilled in a much shorter time. To assist us in better supporting your request, providing detailed information up front will significantly expedite the process. In this case, the more information, the better.

We assign team members based on availability and expertise; you are welcome to let us know if you prefer to work with a specific individual. We will do our best to accommodate your request.

Our ability to prioritize requests is dependent on the current workload of our teams and resource availability, we encourage you to communicate any urgent needs as early as possible. Please understand that we may not be able to support last-minute requests if our teams are unavailable.
